We have had a brilliant end to another busy half term with a non-uniform reward day for HAWKS on 12th February and whole school non-uniform day today, Friday 13th February, supporting Children's Mental Health by raising funds for Place2Be charity. We also came together as a whole school in our Celebration Worship! School is now closed for the half term break and we look forward to welcoming all of the children back on Monday 23rd February 2026. PE days will be sent via an In-App message and added to our Facebook page before our return to school.

A Magical Day with Tallulah Swirls Shadow Puppet Theatre On Monday 26th January, Year 3, Year 6 and The Nest were treated to an incredible professional performance of shadow puppetry from Tallulah Swirls. Year 3 then spent the rest of the day taking part in hands-on workshops, exploring the fascinating effects created by light and shadow. They designed and made their own puppets and worked together to create their very own shadow theatre performances. It was an amazing and inspiring day, bringing science and DT learning to life in the most creative way! #growingandlearningtogether #stjohnswey
In Year 6 Science today, Monday 26th January, we learnt about Charles Darwin, a famous scientist who lived over 150 years ago. He travelled the world on a ship called HMS Beagle and studied plants and animals on his journey. When he reached the Galápagos Islands, near South America he studied the finches that lived there. He noticed that each island had different environments and food. Darwin noticed that the finches looked similar but had different beaks. The different beaks meant they were suited to different foods. We investigated what would happen with different beak types and different foods. Year 6 used scissors, pegs, tweezers and spoons to represent different beak types of the finches and in 30 seconds tried to pick up as much different food as they could. Our different foods were All Bran, mini marshmallows, popcorn kernels, pumpkin seeds, rice, giant cous cous and cannellini beans. We were interested to see which beaks were best suited to which food type! It was really good fun but quite tricky to pick some of the food up. #growingandlearningtogether #stjohnswey
Our wildlife garden is looking amazing Thank you so much to James from The Seedlings Programme who is creating the garden with help from lots of our children. #growingandlearningtogether #stjohnswey
On Wednesday 21st January, each KS2 class enjoyed a table tennis session with local coach, Andy Millar. They learnt some super skills and played small games against each other. We're hoping some might join the table tennis club on Saturday mornings at the Wey Valley Tennis Centre - all KS2 children brought home a flyer with further information. #growingandlearningtogether #stjohnswey
Reminder - Year 2 Parent/Carer Celebration of Learning takes place tomorrow, Friday 23rd January at 8.55am. We will be serving light refreshments from 8.45am. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
On Monday 12th January Year 2 visited Southampton Arts and Heritage Museum. When they arrived, the children listened to a talk about key information on The Titanic before taking part in four different activities. These included matching clues to objects that may have been used on the Titanic and also deciding who should be saved on a lifeboat. This led to a discussion about why children would have been saved first. The children also explored the museum and learnt more facts about the Titanic using the hands-on activities and even received a guided tour! It was a brilliant day of interactive learning and enjoyed by all. #growingandlearningtogether #stjohnswey
Yesterday, Wednesday 14th January, several KS2 children enjoyed a multisports event at Weymouth College, learning new sports skills and having lots of fun. They were brilliantly behaved and helped the College students practise their coaching skills. We're hoping they might join the multisports club starting next Tuesday! #growingandlearningtogether #stjohnswey
